ISAT Tests....What Do You Think....

OK so now that ISAT testing is over let's see if live in school gets back to normal. This week I want to hear your thoughts on standardized testing and it's effect on education. Tell me what you think about the ISAT process and how it affects you, your teacher, and our school district. Your response could be a thought you already had or could be a response to any of the following topics:
  1. Talk about the testing process...(Timeline..silence in the halls...anyhthing related to testing)
  2. What preparation did you go through for the tests...
  3. Is/should your teacher be held accountable for the results of your test?
  4. Is it fair to be assessed on a single test given once a year?
  5. Do some students do better on tests than others?
  6. Should testing be at the state level or the federal?
Your response does not have to be to any of the above questions - these are only suggestions to get your noggins cooking. Responses must be a paragraph of at least 5 sentences. Talk to me peoples!

  2. The testing process kind of seemed pointless. We had to be silent in the hallways, we had to eat breakfast every morning, and we got a snack during the test. I know supposly the isat is important but i thought our other school work was important too we should have those 'rules' when we dont have the test i dont think the isat as anything to do with your grade so it seems pointless to me.

  3. I dont think we should have the ISAT... It assesses us on how we do on this test when we should be assessed on how we do throughout the entire year. Some students work well on tests and sone have a hard time with them. Those who have a hard time will look as if they aren't as smart as those that find test taking easy. We should be assessed on the work we do throughout the year and they would see what and how we learn.

  4. I think that my teacher should be held accountable, but at the same time i don't think my teacher should be held accountable. I think my teacher should be held accountable because they should spend more time making sure the student knows the process in understanding ISAT tests. For an example, if there is a reading test and the teacher never taught the students the Extended Response, then the student will be confused during the writing question. But then again, I don't think that the teachers should be held accountable because it is up to the students to pay attention in class not the teachers.

  5. 3.) I think it is both. The teachers are the ones that are supposed to be teaching you what you need to know. If they do not teach you what you need to know then you will fail. They would also be losing their job. But if you aren't trying to comprehend the information they are giving you then you will also fail. School is team work when it comes to this. So the fault is equal between students and teachers.

  6. Edward, you're kind of wrong because the ISAT tells the teachers what we have learned throughout the year, not just what we get on the test.If you remember what you learned since the beginning of the year, then you'll do good on the test.... I had the same idea, but , yea....

  7. during the testing process we begin to practice staying silent in the hallways . taking a test takes lots of time .....it think its 45min including the 10 extra min. No teachers shouldn't be held accountable for the results and besides wat do u mean by the accountable, do we do bad?...?? i think that taking the one test is o.k but its not like they can judge us with one test. i think that student do best when they like a subject but when they dont they dont do as well.testing should stay at state...i think :)

  8. Well like two weeks before ISAT all we talk about is ISAT.
We go over everything and its a lot of work.
Then we only did one test per day. Then our schedule is all messed up. In class we just relax while we were not testing. Then we had to be quiet in the halls. Some students do do better than other students because some try harder than others. Those are my thoughts...

  9. To answer the second question, the preparation that i went thru at wilson school was that we practiced ISAT questions and did extended responses before we got to the real thing. We also had prepared for a pep rally on friday. We did this so that before we took the test we could get the rezt of the children pumped for ISAT as well as ourselvez. I think that this whole preparation was a googd way to get us ready for the test which i believ i did great in.

  10. The process for testing is studying for hours and teacher have to teach off the curriculum to help us study and we loose time and we totally forget about everything that we learned to concentrate on ISAT then a week later we have to work on something totally different it is confusing!!!!!!! i dont like ISAT at all

  11. I think the ISAT test is an important test that show how our school district is doing. The ISAT test is important because it shows how each student works with learning materials. I think the ISAT should be given once a year to show if the school district and teachers are improving at teaching their students. The preparation for the ISAT for the test is just reviewing what we learned so far. This shows how the ISAT test is an important test.

  12. I hate taking ISAT its boring it a long week to two week process but even know i cant stand it everything in life isn't fair its something we have to do and try our hardest at(which i hope everybody does). This takes a toll on the teachers because they are the ones that a have to get us ready? prepared for the ISAT if the test come back with badd grades the teachers will be the ones to blame because we are learning all our information from the teachers. Some of the things i hate about ISAT is that we have to me quick at lease an hour while we are taking the test and when we are done we cant talk all we can do is read or sit there (boring). We have to do a ton of extended response and test the make sure we are ready for the ISAT. But even know i dont agree with taking ISAT it only makes us better and helps us reach our futures goals.

  13. These are great responses. Remember that on a posting question like this there is no right or wrong answer. The question is designed to get the class to think out of the box and to respond to each other.

  14. Some preparation I went threw for the test is going to sleep on time, eating breakfast every morning, and making sure I get to school on time everyday. You also have to make sure you don't miss a day of school because the test is very important. How you do on the test does affect your school because it shows how much your actually learning during the school year.

  15. IThink We Shudnt Have The ISAT Testinq, Because To Me iTs Pointless .
The Teachers Get All Scared over This Test , &Nhd in Reality if They Wnted Us to Know That They Should of Tauqht Us That in The Beqqinq.
It Was Also Pointless Because We Have To Be Quite in The Hallways &Then We Had To Go To Sleep Really Early But Manyy People Didnt.
We Had To Eat Breakfast. & The Questions Were Really Hard .'
& Threw 0ut The Isat We All Talked Bout How iT Was Pointless Especially The Extended Response. They Expect So Much From The Little Passaqe They Give Us .

  16. I think the ISAT sometimes depend on how you do your work.yes, because if they don't teach you will do bad on the test.

  17. I don't really mind taking the ISAT. I'm pretty smart(if i do say so myself) and so i dont have to worry about doing bad on the test. There are some people who aren't really into testing and so they have a hard time testing. Even though i don't have a problem with ISAT, it's SSSSSOOOOOO boring!!! All we gotta do just stay quiet and calm. They don't even give us schoolwork, I LIKE DOING SCHOOLWORK!!( which just shows how much of a nerd i am). Bottom Point: I'm glad that testing is over because it's a lot of drama, and i hate drama...
