We discussed in class that textbooks are an interesting facet of education. They are costly to replace and can be outdated in just a few years. Students can write on them and they can be damaged. Eventually they have to be replaced.
What do you think about the use of electronic devices to replace textbooks? An iPad can easily hold 1,000 books. These books can also be interactive and include video. Do you think electronic devices will replace paper textbooks? Should students be allowed to take them home? What are some of the benefits/drawbacks of using an electronic device? Should it be a laptop or something like an iPad? Comment on any of the above questions or voice your thought. Earbuds for the first 10 responses.
Well i think it would be better if we replaced textbooks with electronics devices. We should be able to take them home if we are responsible.

I believe that we should replace text books with technology. If we had ipads or laptops students would probably be very interested during school. The school could probably block certain sites so students couldn't do anything bad on them. It would cost less money for the schools. Surely later on in a couple of years it will pay off. But with this you would definately have to make the students pay for the damages or there will be no point to this. I believe this would be a great switch.
ReplyDeleteI think we should have laptops or iPads. Technology is advancing and schools need to do the same... some schools have. I think eventually our schools will but it will take some time. Good laptops and iPads can be really expensive so we will have to wait some time until we can get them to have. I think if the school provided them for the students to keep it would really cool but the students would have to follow the rules the schools put in place if we want to keep them. i hope one day we will...
ReplyDeletei believe that technology should replace textbooks. Textbook are heavy and they get destroyed so easy even tho so can technology books do not appeal to us student like technology dose. I believe that even tho it would be expensive it would pay off in a couple of year and we would be more interested in school and we would have better grades and maybe our economy would be better then it is now.

ReplyDeleteusing a textbook is a little boring and using technology can sometimes be confusing.using textbooks is eisier and technology is fun. i prefer textbooks theres nothing like opening a good book :)

Even though getting technology through the whole school would be very expensive, it will also last longer. You can always keep adding information to technology but textbooks you can't. Yes students would be more interested in school because everyone loves to get on the computer=)
ReplyDeleteI believe that it would be better to replace textbooks with technology because we only need to carry one thing and not any heavy books. It would also be good because it may also let us keep track of our homework if we forget about it. It will benefit the teachers as well because if we turn in paper the teacher could lose it with all the papers but with the electronics we can also turn in our homework early.

ReplyDeleteI think that it would definetely be better to use electronic devices to replace textbooks because it would save trees. lol I'm kidding, but it would be better because you can easily keep an electronic device up to date with all the new software, but it's very hard to keep up to date with all these textbooks. New information is constantly been discovered and they have to replace all the old facts with new ones. Just imagine updating all those textbook's information. Don't you think it's just so much better to just program the device and download the program?
ReplyDeleteNow, on the opinion on which electronic device to use, i would say an iPad. An iPod would be easier to carry around but an iPad has many more Apps and it would be easier to learn from it. The screen is bigger and better, so for those people who have trouble with their eyesite, it would be better. In order for the students to be honest and not steal the iPad, the school could put tracking devices on the iPad's and people wouldn't be tempted to steal them.
I think that using electronic devices to replace textbooks will be a good idea, because sine the textbooks get outdated in just a few years technology can catch up to the new stuff that has been updated in the year. I don't think they should take them home because they might cost a lot but if the teacher choose to let their students take them home thats their choice. Also I think it should be a laptop because iPads might cost too much.

ReplyDeleteMy opinion on this is that it would be more efficient to replace textbooks with other electronic devices.The reason being that textbooks and get pretty boring for us students at times.And using computers would probably help us be more engaged and interested in the lesson. [:

This is because the replacement would have students more interested in what the subject is that theyy are learning and getting familiar with. But no, i do not think the students shuld b able to take them home because i dont believe some would take care of these new devices.
ReplyDeleteI do agree that ipads should be replaced with text books. it would be an easier and fun way to learn. No to mention when you turn in textbooks there are writing all in them n sometimes the owner has to pay for them even know it was the previous owner. i think this is a great way to learn and it would give student an boost to learn and be instertsed in learnind. one the other hand text books are so boring and old. An ipad can be updated with new information and etc. While text books are the same all the time (boring).The cost? they can sell the text books and they will be able to get ipads. either way i think that weather its textbooks or ipads students have to show respect to school property becuase now teacher can agrue saying we dont ven respect text book what makes us think we can respect ipads any more than the textbooks.Should they be able to take they home? No i dont think we are resboniable enough to take them home than if somthing happens parent wont want to pay and etc. its just easyier to leave them at school.I think Ipad would be better than laptops only because ipda is protable and you can walk around such as a laptop somebody can bump in to you and knock it down safely issues etc.
